Imperial County Amateur Radio Group and De Anza Rescue Unit Volunteers Demonstrate Teamwork, Emergency Preparedness, and the Spirit of Amateur Radio

The Imperial County Amateur Radio Group (ICARG), operating under the call sign W6ICR, proudly participated in the 2026 ARRL Field Day, held June 27–28, 2026, achieving an outstanding result of more than 600 amateur radio contacts.

The annual event brought together amateur radio operators, volunteers, and supporters to demonstrate the importance of reliable communications, technical skills, emergency preparedness, and community service.

More Than 600 Contacts — An Outstanding Achievement

During the Field Day operation, W6ICR operators successfully logged more than 600 contacts, demonstrating the dedication and operating skills of the participating amateur radio enthusiasts.

According to the official ARRL entry listing, the Imperial County Amateur Radio Group submitted its operation under Class 4A, with K6CLX listed as the Get On The Air (GOTA) station call sign.

These accomplishments reflect the group’s commitment to amateur radio and its ability to organize and maintain a coordinated communications operation.

Practicing Emergency Communications Skills

ARRL Field Day is more than an opportunity to make radio contacts. It is an annual exercise that encourages amateur radio operators to practice establishing and maintaining communications under conditions that may resemble emergency situations.

For W6ICR, the event provided opportunities to strengthen communications skills, share technical knowledge, mentor newer operators, and demonstrate the value of amateur radio as a public service.

Field Day also reminds us that amateur radio remains an important resource when conventional communication systems are unavailable or disrupted.

Special Recognition for De Anza Rescue Unit Volunteers

A significant part of this year’s success was the participation and support of volunteers from the De Anza Rescue Unit (DARU).

DARU volunteers assisted with event setup, logistics, site support, and other essential activities that helped the amateur radio operation run successfully.

Their contributions demonstrated the value of cooperation between amateur radio organizations and volunteer emergency response groups.

The Imperial County Amateur Radio Group extends its sincere appreciation to the De Anza Rescue Unit volunteers for their dedication, time, and commitment to community service.

Building Friendships and Encouraging New Operators

One of the most rewarding aspects of Field Day is the opportunity to bring people together through a shared interest in radio communications.

Throughout the event, experienced amateur radio operators shared knowledge with newer participants while working together to maintain communications.

Activities like Field Day help introduce others to the possibilities of amateur radio, from technical experimentation and operating skills to emergency communications and public service.

The participation of K6CLX as the listed GOTA station call sign also highlights the connection between the Calexico Amateur Radio Society and this regional amateur radio activity.

Thank You to Everyone Who Participated

The success of Field Day 2026 would not have been possible without the dedication of the radio operators, volunteers, visitors, and supporters who contributed to the event.

The Imperial County Amateur Radio Group’s achievement of more than 600 contacts represents not only successful radio operations but also the friendship, teamwork, and community spirit that make amateur radio special.

Congratulations to W6ICR and everyone involved in ARRL Field Day 2026!

We look forward to continued cooperation among amateur radio enthusiasts throughout Calexico, the Imperial Valley, and surrounding communities.
